What Parents and Students Are Saying

Gratefully, all four of my children have benefited from IEW classes with Mrs. Pamela White. While they have had other IEW teachers, Mrs. White shines as the most attentive teacher, providing both encouragement and helpful feedback. With her my children made significant progress. Because of her instruction, my older children have excelled in their college classes which require extensive writing. Most importantly, they can communicate effectively and confidently in writing for whatever the purpose. Thank you, Mrs. White!
Whether you have avid or struggling writers, Mrs. White has insight in how to help them. Her online classes provide needed structure, but she is always understanding and not rigid. When we have needed accommodations or extensions, she is flexible. Having homeschooled herself, she gets it. Mrs. White respects parents.
When I learned that Mrs. White would be offering Institute for Excellence in Writing Online Classes on her own beginning fall of 2022, I was thrilled. Immediately, I registered my youngest daughter. As expected, the course is a fabulous blend of the traditional IEW curriculum and Fix-it Grammar of which Mrs White is the author. Although I consider myself a writer, I have learned so much from Fix-it Grammar. Honestly, I wonder: how did I know how to punctuate before Fix-it? Now I understand what was previously mysterious.

Through years of Pamela's IEW classes with five of my children, the running joke is that you're not an official member of our family until you've completed her class! My oldest daughter paved the way when she took Pamela’s IEW in 11th grade. With no real writing experience before Pamela’s class, she entered her freshman year of college confident and prepared. After several weeks in college, my daughter asked why the other students struggled so much in writing papers. She even received a full scholarship for an essay she wrote using IEW methods!
One of the best parts is that through my kids’ learning IEW, I have learned as well! ALL my kids have excelled in writing and feel confident because of IEW. It makes me so proud to have kids who can write well, but it makes me grateful to God that my children can communicate their faith through writing, as two have done preparing for short-term missions.
Pamela returns email quickly and answers all our questions. She keeps my kid’s attention, and writing is their favorite class because of her. Truly, she’s the most gifted teacher I have ever known.

I took your class many years ago (around 2012) and I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the invaluable lessons you taught me during my time in your class.
As a nurse and nutrition researcher, strong writing skills are crucial in my line of work. The tools you gave me for effective writing and critical thinking have stayed with me and continue to be invaluable to me in almost all aspects of my life. (You had come to mind this morning while I was experiencing some writer's block and recalled some of the IEW's principles, and I suddenly remembered your class!)
Your passion for the written word and dedication to your students was truly inspiring, and I am grateful to have had you as a teacher. Thank you for all that you did for me!

After being blessed with Mrs. White as a teacher for over 5 years, this family considers her to be our most beloved and respected teacher for any class. The love she displays for writing and grammar is infused in every aspect of her teaching and she instills that same love in each of her students! While her classes have always been rigorous, in-depth, and comprehensive, she ensures her students master each concept. Mrs. White goes above and beyond to help her students; she has even called us to personally walk us through a concept we did not understand. We firmly recommend her to any family looking for a writing teacher who can seamlessly combine teaching difficult and advanced concepts with mastery and love of the subject.

When I was in the fifth grade, my mother decided that my sister and I needed a solid writing foundation—and thus I became one of Pamela White’s first students when she began teaching in her living room. Before graduating high school, I took every class she offered, from the fundamentals of composition to advanced literary analysis. Now I am about to graduate from law school, and I credit Ms. Pamela’s excellent instruction with the caliber of my writing.
Her methodical, thorough instruction lays a strong foundation in composition, instills a firm grasp of grammar and punctuation, and nurtures a versatile, compelling vocabulary. Moreover, she will tame tendencies, like mine, to emulate the sometimes-needless prolixity of Charles Dickens (an excellent compositional and expressive role model, if you ask me). While I was a legal writing teaching assistant for first-year law students, I came across some who plainly never received a proper foundation. Your student need not be counted among them.

Mrs. White is the greatest! This bold claim may seem to be merely the biased thoughts of a student who wishes for extra credit, but my words are without question the truth of the matter.
She is affable and willing to help any who need assistance. She takes true pleasure in her work and is utterly willing to help her students. Her class structure is superbly set up to allow all types of learners to benefit from her lessons.
Although I had the fundamental skills needed for writing the average essay before attending her class, I lacked the stylistic tools that make essays a pleasure to read. My style (if it could even be called that) was bland. If my style had been a spice, it would surely have been flour. As an individual who wishes to write novels, short stories, and screenplays, this lack of flare was a major hindrance. Mrs. White not only added to my fundamental skills but also helped me develop the stylistic techniques that are not often taught in schools. She encouraged me to be creative when I wrote, and she also made it crystal clear that writing is a science and an art that can be used in a variety of ways. After only a few classes and a single essay written for her, I found myself subconsciously applying what I had learned in her class to my fiction writing. Gone were the days where my writing was as bland as flour and boring as wet paint! Here to stay were the days of clever writing, superb storytelling, and diverse vocabulary!
No review can be complete until it has covered the cons of a class, so I shall now write about errors, mistakes, and things that were done wrong, but as there are none that come ready to mind when considering her class, I shall instead focus on how she addresses her own students’ errors, mistakes, and things done wrong.
I made innumerable mistakes and errors, and she took advantage of every one of them as an opportunity to teach without belittling. Her words were always tender, and her corrections were easy to understand, learn, and accept. It is for these reasons (and countless others) that my initial statement is true: Mrs. White is the greatest.

As a homeschool parent, each school year brings a reassessment of my child’s skills and interests. It also brings with it the daunting task of finding the proper curriculum or course to meet his needs. My son desires to be a writer. After searching through the many options, we settled on an online Advanced Essay Writing course crafted and taught by Mrs. White. Our goal was to find a course which provided clear and precise advanced instruction, interesting and challenging assignments, and direct access to the course instructor.
While my son is currently completing the first semester of his course, we have found the course to be everything that we had hoped it to be and more. The course materials are outstanding. My son is learning advanced grammatical concepts and their practical application. He is learning to focus his writing in a manner which is preparing him for college assignments and for an English degree. The assignments are thoughtful and specific to the topics being taught.
We have found Mrs. White to be a skilled and patient instructor who values her students. She provides kind and responsive feedback in a manner which instills confidence and courage in her pupils. She is readily available to her students for questions and assistance. I cannot speak highly enough about her teaching methods, her knowledge base, and her attention to her student’s needs. I have no hesitation recommending her courses for your student. My son has benefited immeasurably in the few months of instruction. It is going to fun to see what the next semester brings.
